Car: 2001 9-3 SE, ~130,000 miles. Some front end vibration, and decided to rebuild/replace front axle shafts. Currently w/o a garage, and time was tight so I decided to use a SurTrack axle for the passenger side. I'm only going to keep the car another year perhaps, and thought it will last at least that long.

Well...I was wrong. After a couple of long trips, I started hearing some drivetrain noise. Then, last week, vibration. So, I had ordered original GKN replacement tripod bearings and new boots all around. Cleaned and repacked the outers and new tripod bearings on the inners.

When I removed the SurTrack axle, the first thing I noticed was noticeable rotational play on the outer joint. The original 130,000 mile part has none. The second thing was the tripod bearings all had noticeable axial play. The used GKN one had none, and this was with grease that appeared to have gotten water in it sometime long ago.

So, how long was the SurTrack axle in place before it wore like this? 3,000 miles. Do yourself a favor and run from these parts. One last observation, the axle nut had lost quite a bit of its torque.
