I will be re-repairing the right side mounting hole/slot for the 2-piece spoiler. It rusted to a nickel/quarter sized hole at some point in the past, and a P.O. did an ok job painting it and supplementing the original nut and washer with a home made rubber gasket. But the rust seems to be coming back, so i want to address it before the hole gets any larger.

After prep'ing surfaces, I was planning to apply a piece of fiberglass with POR-15 on the underside and then fill the recess on the top side with body filler, sand it, re-cut the slot for the mounting stud and then coat the repair with POR-15, and top coat if I have time. Appreciate any feedback or insights on that.

When I was investigating, I noticed that the bolts/screws that hold the upper and lower spoiler together are pretty rusty, the left side very much so. If anyone's separated the upper/lower spoiler, should i be concerned or careful about anything when removing these rusty bolts to replace them? When I see bolts this roached, I worry about what I can't see, and making the situation worse by stripping threads, etc. Or are these screws just threaded into the plastic/fiberglass of the upper spoiler, so if I get the bolt out, its easily replaced? The bolts seem to be doing their job now, but I don't want to go through this repair, only to have to take it apart in a year when that bolt rusts through.

Also, does anyone know what a suitable replacement would be for the padded (?) tape adhered to the outer corners of the hatch (under the spoiler), that presumably buffers vibration of the spoiler against the body? Not to be confused with the foam molding tape on the spoiler perimeter. The right side tape has dried and flaked off. The p/n for this stuff is 5124789, and lists for $200 (!!). I'll be replacing the foam tape on the spoiler with 3M double-sided molding tape (hopefully all but eliminating vibration and rubbing), so is that padded tape even necessary?

Thanks
Doug
