The clutch is not slipping in the conventional sense. Currently, the magnetic coil is cycling on and off rapidly (as evidenced by the loud clicking of the engagement/disengagement. Three clicks and its done (only on start up when cold). When I had the original coil, I got 10-15 minutes of good cold AC.The pressure was taken on the low side only-it exceeded the gauge range and the fellow taking the measurement was worried about his equipment so the "test" ended there. They had already messed around with it when I had the other coil and were unable to figure it out-as I understood it even removing the spacing washers for the air gap adjustment produced no results. So in my limited experience when the compressor fails to engage it's either low on 134, the air gap is too large, or the coil has given up. I really expected that swapping out the coil would correct the issue and, at first it appeared fixed on some short 10 minute drives. It was only when I was starting on a longer drive with my wife to show off my mechanical acumen did the immediate clicking/no appreciable engagement start.
