There is a split in VIN in 99 between old a new brake calipers (X2020000/7020000).
The old calipers cannot accept brake pads for the newer ones without creating a slight tilt of the caliper and pads.
It can be hard to spot but pads are not resting perfectly flat against rotors and when you push the pedal, the pads have further to travel before clamping down.
I call the pads with or without humps because on the backside of backing plate, there is a protrusion or not on the inner and/or outer pad.
