I too have a similar noise, but only sometimes. For a while there was a "clunk" that I could feel in the steering wheel and the drivers' side lower control arm as the steering wheel was moved back and forth about a half turn from center. The clunk went away as soon as I made an appointment with the dealer. No kidding.
My steering is also extremely suceptible to road imperfections and seems to require different steering wheel angles depending on whether I'm accelerating or decelerating. My service manager, without even looking at the car, said that it was just due to the low profile tires. Grrrr. When the road is flat, the car tracks true.
I'm thinking of replacing the lower control arms, and probably putting the Abbott TCA bushings in right from the start. We'll see.
