There is more than one basic type of coolant commonly available these days. Unfortunately, a system designed for one type will not always be compatible with certain of the others. The Europeans tend to use a different type than the Americans and some of the Japanese use another type altogether. There are also exceptions to these generalities. To complicate things further, I am aware of no labeling on the bottles that tells specifically what's in them. There are manufacturers' specs on some bottles that will tell, though.
As a very basic guide, do NOT mix colors. If your car's factory fill was green-yellow, do NOT put the orangy stuff or the bluish stuff in (and vice-versa). Unfortunately, this is still not specific enough as there are different types that have very similar colors. If you cannot or will not use SAAB's coolant, then the next safest thing is actually the good old greenish-yellow American stuff. Not the super-long-life stuff (nothing orange or red at all), not the stuff at the Subaru dealer, not the low-phosphate, low-silica heavy-diesel-truck stuff, just plain old cheap American antifreeze that lists compatibility with aluminum.
