You don't have to have the AC on all this time. It is quite useful in terms of keeping the interior dry and fog-free, but if you're willing to make a couple of minor adjustments to the ACC, you can have it only come on at temps over 50F for example. Then if things fog up on you, you can turn it back on manually. Look in your manual in the section of "programing your ACC"
I leave mine off most of the time and have programed my car to turn on in "ECON," "AUTO," and 74F (mainly for winter). If it gets foggy, I simply hit the defrost switch until things clear up and then go back to my original setting. Only if it's too hot or in persistantly humid conditions do I leave the AC on. In the summer, I also don't use the AUTO mode to start. I typically leave it on the second lowest fan position, through the vents with the temp. set to 70F. If it gets too hot, I'll put it into AUTO mode with the AC on until it cools down.

I've found getting used to the ACC a little unintuitive. In fact, I'm a bit concerned about my wife's ability to regulate the interior conditions in non-perfect weather. If she were driving the car full-time, I would probably leave it in full AUTO (with AC on all the time . . . or set to only come on above 50F).

Do these common-sensicle ramblings officially qualify me for the title of "Master of the Obvious?" I say YES!

HTH,

-mark
