Followup: DRLs and Strange Headlight ops (this is long) Posted by Daryle [Email] (#98) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Daryle) on Mon, 20 Nov 2000 13:51:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thank's to all who responded to my post last week. So often there are posts re: problems but few come back to tell the resolution. Here it goes. My complaint was I had the dealer turn OFF my DRL's ('97 900 SE). The car was re-programmed by the dealer so that I could use the headlight control dial in the center position. In this position, only parking lights should go on (w or w/o fogs). However, my passenger side headlamp had a faint glow while the drivers side was dark. My dealer had a "Safety Day and Garage Sale" this past weekend, so I thought I'd ask. The tech actually spent 20 minutes resolving the problem. There is a tiny (5 amp?) bulb in the headlight housing. It is considered to be park of the "parking light group". This bulb is no bigger than the bulb in the vanity lights, etc. The drivers side had burnt out. To fix:
Remove grille
Remove headlight completely, turn over.
You will see a thin, single wire going from the main bulb housing to a connector
Pull out the connector, bulb should come with it
This is the bulb that remains lit when the parking lights are on, there will be a faint glow from the headlights with dial in center position
If you don't want these low wattage bulbs on, you need to remove both bulbs from each headlight housing or wait for them to burn out.
Sorry for the lengthy message.
