I had a problem with my 1998 900SET that in colder weather (45-50F) the air cinditioner (A/C) coil would freeze over and cause the airflow to drop and the vents to "whistle". If I set the automatic climate control (ACC) to ECON than the A/C would thaw out and the air would start flowing again, whistle would go away.
The problem was fixed under warrenty. It turned out to be a bad A/C coil freeze sensor. The freeze sensor is supposed to shutoff the A/C when the coil starts to freeze over. If the A/C coil freezes over, the inlet air is partially blocked by the iced over coil and the "whistle" noise is the air trying to sqeeze around the iced over coil.
It took me a couple tries before the dealer understood the problem and replaced the correct sensor.
