The problem with the shock bearings is that they wear out fast. There's no real safety hazard, once they wear the handling gets messy, like any worn suspension would, and that causes other parts to wear faster.
There are redesigned bearings, they're quite pricey on their own, and you have to get the strut out to replace them. If you're used to this sort of work, you can do it yourself. Otherwise, it's a good job to combine with other suspension work like shocks and bushings. At 43K, I wouldn't expect them to be too bad unless you're on very bad roads. The bearings in my 95 900SE lasted about 95,000 miles in the most severe service imaginable -- NYC roads nearly all its life.
Quick question -- didn't the 1994s have a longer warranty than the later years? Might check into that if you suspect the bearings.
