All stock NG900's have the boost reduced in the 1st two gears. That can make second gear a drag.

In your model year, the boost in the higher gears will get to the start of the red, and not venture into it to any extent. Later production does provide for some short turn boost in the red.

You can increase the boost pressure. You can also get a low restriction air filters, remove the turbo compressor discharge silencer, modify the air box and the throttle body aluminum transistion casting, Saab Sports exhaust. Tou can spend $500 to $1000 to have your engine ECU modified by sending it to Europe. The boost can be increased to a lesser amount with an external boost controller for much less money.

The low restriction air filter and exhaust should be considered prerequisites to any increase in boost. The three DIY items are very beneficial, and will let you realize the potential of a stock or modified boost setup.

The main issues are what your need for speed is, driving profile and your budget constraints. Boost and performance modifications are cheaper than suspension modifications. Higher engine performance may drive the need for improved suspension. Improved suspension will cost from $500 to $2500. And you will need high performance tires, and if you get carried away with the power, you will need high performnace tires frequently. You can have an awesome vehicle if you are prepared to spend $3500.

If you are interested, you can very easily have a Saab which have very fast turbo response that will pin you back of the seat.

When you make serious investments in performance parts, you will looking for more than getting basic engine durability. You will need to use synthetic oil and good fuel. You need to keep the plugs and injectors in top condition.

You have to consider the condition of the vehicle you are upgrading. Have you owned your vehicle since new? Are you willing to commit to long term maintence of an older vehicle, or do you trade in vehicles when they get to a mature high maintenance age.

If you live in snow country, you also want top line snow tires. You need to protect you investment! With an upgraded older vehicle, if there is an accident, you are at risk of having your insurance company cut you a check for its book value. And they keep the wreck and your upgraded components.
