Serpentine belt replacement.... Posted by REM in Seattle [Email] (#4) [Profile/Gallery] (more from REM in Seattle) on Thu, 7 Dec 2000 09:46:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
At 35,600 miles I had the dealer replace my serpentine belt (they had noted it was 'worn' at the 35,000 mile service). HAd them check the idlers and tensioner at the same time (no problems). Usually I would do this myself, but with the hoildays I just couldn't (wouldn't) find the time.
Anyway, the new belt is a fabric reinforced rubber belt (like a Gates belt), while the old belt was a black unreinforced polyurethane belt.
As I remember, Saab originally chose polyurethane because it ran quieter.
Has Saab changed the belt type to increase life? Or is this just a normal 'alternate' supplier thing? Any thoughts about this appreciated.
