Hesitation at start-up- GONE Posted by NIck [Email] (#227) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NIck) on Mon, 11 Dec 2000 10:34:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I wish to thank TG, Dean and REM for their suggestions on my stalling problem at start-up. The stalling was particularly noticeable at start-up in between gear changes. I have an automatic.
Although the problem eventually turned out to be caused by a faulty battery [an "USED" oversized-aftermarket battery supplied by my friendly Saab dealer to replace my 3 month old original battery], the suggestions by REM, TG and Dean were very helpful indeed and if anything served as guidance and encouragement. BTW, any explanations why a faulty battery would cause stalling/hesitation during idling? Voltage deficiency??
As suggested, I have renewed the NGK 7's, cleaned the throttle body, cleaned injectors and valves with Lubro Moly, replaced serpentine and topped PAS with Pentosin. Coupled with new fuel, pollen and air filters and new fluids [brake, ATF, PAS, engine, coolant] throughout, the car, a 98 900SE with 40K, now runs remarkably more powerful and smoother, and yet more economical. Per Dean's advice, I have also maintained by braking system through cleaning and greasing up the moving components.
All in all, I believe I have just completed my 35K service at a fraction of the cost[ around $120, exc. battery]. More importantly, having done this work gave me the opportunity to learn tremendously about my vehicle.
Thanks again to the gentlemen for making this board great for the DIY.
