I bought a floor jack from Sears ($50-100), a medium quality torque wrench ($50) and do the job myself. It takes 30-45 minutes. I use a block of hardwood between the jack's cup and the notch at the car's jacking point; ensure that the block won't slip off the jack or the car. I've found that jacking at the front jack point will lift both wheels on that side off the ground, but it doesn't take much longer to jack the front and rear separately. Break the lug nuts free before jacking the car, and only snug them down before lowering the car again. Never apply lots of torque when the car is in the air. Torque the wheels once the car is down.
Bottom line, if you can change a tire, you can change out your winter tires, at home, at your convenience.
