I just got a replacement aftermarket mast and nylon cable from Impex for $23.00 (plus shipping). See link below.
Hopefully, I will recall this procedure properly, though replacing is easy. Power up the radio to raise the antenna, and remove the nut on the mast mount. Remove the mast, and pull the nylon cable out. You may have to give it a tug to unhook it from the last few notches that hold it. Note the relative position of the mount, short inner sleeve, and nut before you disassemble everything.
Assembly is basicly the reverse of removal. (Don't lose the thin o ring that the nut snugs down against.) With the radio on, and antenna mast up, thread the notched cable into the hole, (with the notches facing the front of the car, if I remember correctly) until you feel the first one or 2 notches catch on the gear. (You will have to push it in til it catches.) Then have someone turn the radio off, which will cause the gear to pull the cable and antenna down(if you're quick, you can do this alone.) Guide the cable, and make sure there are no kinks or twists in it. The antenna mast should want to retract, and when it does so fully, position the mount properly and snug down the nut. I had to raise and lower mine a second time to get it to retract fully. The whole job took about 10 minutes.
