Side Marker Bulb Socket Replacement (anyone)

I went to change the bulb in my passenger side side marker (turn signal) and found that the pins in the bulb socket had corroded away (welcome to Eastern Canada). There's only enough play in the wiring to allow it to protrude about 2-3 cm beyond the fender wall. Does anyone have experience changing the bulb socket? Are the wires in the fender easy to access? If they were I would do a simple splice. The wiring doesn't look particularily easy to remove from the bulb socket, is there a trick to it. I may be wrong, but this looks like one of those $5.00 parts $200 labour repairs at the dealers.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best Regards
