Below is the text of an e-mail I received from Castrol re: GT LMA Brake Fluid shelf Life (I had some unopened containers in the basement and was curious if they were still good).
---------------------------------
Thank you for contacting Castrol regarding GT LMA Brake Fluid.
In response to your inquiry, our shelf life follows the Julian calendar format. On the bottom of the back panel, you should locate our fill code. This is composed of a series of letters and numbers, with the first five characters being the most important.
For example, if you have C9001, the "C" would represent the plant location. The four digits, the 9001, would represent the production date. The number 9 represents the last digit of the year (1999) and the 001 represents the day of the year, based on 365 calendar days, on which it was produced (January 1).
Shelf life is no longer than 2 years, provided the oil has been stored in a cool, dry area, with no extreme fluctuating temperatures and the seal has remained intact.
