Why were airbags introduced in the first place? There are millions of cars on the road today without one so what's the big deal? After new materials were introduced to make the cars lighter and designs to make the car disintegrate on impact to disperse energy away from the occupants of the vehicle, they needed to implement these safety devices to help protect you. Although, many manufacturers are still building cars as solid as they ever were, If they plan to market their cars in North America they are required to meet certain federal safety regulations. So if you plan on buying a 2001 Yugo, it has to have an airbag. None of my cars ever had airbags but they were also built differently. Some companies offer steering upgrades for airbags, I doubt you will find one for Saabs since the market isn't large enough but you can try. With all that being said, if you would still like to change your steering wheel and sacrifice your airbag check out my site in the DIY section for some info then make a final decision. BTW the airbag ain't sh8t without wearing a seatbelt.
