changing handling characteristics?

hi all. i have a 97 900 SET (Talladega Edition) with 48xxx miles, manual tranny, and 16in super aero wheels. i'm interested in improving the ride quality, especially over "rougher" roads. the ride just seems a little harsh to me since the suspension bottoms out over nearly any reasonable pavement inconsistency. also, i want to reduce the body roll of the car in turns, because it feels a little mushy under hard cornering. i've driven my friend's bmw 323i and it just feels MUCH smoother over bumps and in turns. i know the bmw has rear wheel drive and the supposed 50/50 weight distribution, but is there any way to make my saab a bit more refined in less than ideal conditions through suspension modifications? or perhaps i should use meatier tires? thanks in advance, and happy saabing.
