Might need to GENTLY snug the nut in a vice, or use a pair of vice grips to hold it. Then, try to wedge a thin screwdriver, the tip of a very pointy pair of needle nose pliers, or a pointy scribe between the mast tube and the nut. The tube is probably out of round or crimped, so you have to bend it back in from the nut. Good luck, this can be a p.i.t.a.
