I've had some luck using denatured alcohol removing paint from some plastics without any problems. I would test it on the underside first to make sure the plastic had no adverse reaction. Your talking about the outside edge, right?
I just painted the back mirror covers to match the car. They come off in seconds & were easy to paint & look much better body color, & its one less thing to "peanut oil up" after a wash.
