The throttle body transition casting needs to match the intercooler pipe diameter at the inlet side and the throttle body diameter on the outlet side. Some porting may be required to make these match. Most of the work is in the polishing to remove the rough casting marks and to smooth all the transitional surfaces.
My throttle body transition casting had a poor inlet ID match and an OK outlet ID match from the factory, but some castings have been found to have off center ID (basically poor casting half-to-half registration).
The theory is to minimize any obstructions to the airflow. Good Luck.
