Why did I buy my first Saab - because driving from Ottawa to Toronto in a miserable snow storm in my son's 1994 V6 with traction control provided me with what I thought was the safest, most relaxing drive I had ever had given the conditions. This caused me to look around and I ended up buying a private sale off the internet. In February 1999 this 1996 900S had 35,000km and now has 125,000km with 2 serpentine belts as the only major expense - originial brakes, exhaust, etc. etc. Overall, a very reliable car. My other one is a 1987 900T convertible that I bought locally but was a spotless Ohio/Oklahoma car and so I can relate to the 'looseness' but that is normal for a convertible. So, read the other posts, check the items they suggest and above all have an independant Saab tech go over the car and then takeup any warranty issues via your dealer. For the money, as a used car, Saabs are very hard to beat. Good luck making a decision.
