I drive a 97 900 SET Automatic with 54300 miles and I just got back from a weeklong roadtrip to Canada visiting family. I wanted to pass some observations to all of you. Overall, I got 26.8 ACTUAL miles to the gallon where the SID indicated 26.0 miles to the gallon. On one tankful I got the best mileage ever of 29.3 miles/gallon. I noticed that the best fuel efficiency happens while maintaining a 75 to 85 MPH average.
The trip from NC to Montreal encountered some pretty heavy rains. I would like to comment on how well the Nitto 450 tires performed on the wet stuff. I maintained a 75 MPH average without any hydroplaning or loss of grip. These tires continue to perform well even after 25,000 miles. I recommend this tire to everyone and not that expensive ($85 each at Discount Tire)
In all I was pleased with my Saab on my first long raod trip with the car. I have had the car 14 months and previously the longest trip was 300 miles. I have not made any modifications as of yet but after reading this board, I intend to.
