I obviously don't know how the SCCA is in FL, but here in MA you can get about 200 cars at an event, some with two drivers, so you wait from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM and then you get in a couple of runs... you may find some smaller clubs, like the one you mention, who will lead to you getting in some more events and more track time, which will help a lot. I suspect in FL a lot of autocross will be on concrete, which will EAT tires... If you don't have ethical objections (!) to joining the BMWCCA, they usually run very good events, and you don't have to own a Bimmer to join the club or do their events. You will also be able to do their driver's schools, which are really, really good, and you will get the club magazine which I confess to enjoying. Definitely do the autocross school, and if poly bushings are legal, they will defintiely be a help too. One other thing that makes an amazing improvement to all NG 900's is Abbotts Viggen Rescue Kit, especially the steering rack brace, though again I'm not sure how the SCCA interprets that, the most beneficial part is probably the steering brace, which they probably categorize as bolt on reinforcement. BTW, I'm highly envious: I wish we could autocross all winter up here!
