There are two adjustments for the headlight aim. One is the plastic knob located on the rear of the headlight. This knob adjusts the right-left or horizontal aim of the headlight. The other adjustment is located on the side of the headlight nearest the turn signal, near the bottom of the headlight. This adjustment is for the up-down or vertical alignment. The headlight elevation is adjusted with a 1/4" or 6mm hex on the end of a 6" extension. There is a hole on the sheet metal over the outboard ends of the lamps. If you cannot locate the adjuster or engage the tool, pull a turn signal lamp to have a look. There are levels in the lamps, but I found that they were not very helpful in getting a proper adjustment.
The best adjustment is to aim the headlights against a vertical surface such as a wall. See the section at Daniel Stern Lighting "Tech Section" for the proper distance and measurements.
If the H4 headlight bulb is not properly seated in the headlight it will cause the headlight aim to be very far out of adjustment. Be sure that the three metal tabs of the H4 headlight bulb are properly seated in the lamp holder. Search this BB for “replacing headlight” for more information.
If the insides of the lamps appear murky, you can remove the lamps, and release the clips from the glass lens and clean the internals. Be very careful as there are sharp edges on the headlight reflectors. The lamps are not dust proof and may need periodic cleaning depending on the amount of dust in your area.
