I've had this problem for well over a year.
If you search through archives there are a number of threads on this problem.
My solution is to turn on ignition and wait for all computer checks to complete and then a few extra seconds to ensure that check trans light DOESN't come on. If it does then i wait WITHOUT firing ignition (don't ask me why but it appears to take less time) until the check trans light extinguishes.
Once failure indictor is off, i then turn the ignition off, on, off, and then on then fire. The cycling clears the error code and prevents car from defaulting to limp-home mode.
I've taken to dealer who can't replicate. The problem comes and goes. When it's bad its BAD.
It is rather embarrasing always having to defend the reliability and integrity of this damn care because to me its such a damn fine driver. Average consumers aren't fooled though, to them i'm just giving them a SAAB story.
