If you are into doing things your self:
The cabin air filter will last many years if you wash it. It does not have to be snow white to work well and you don't have to worry about getting larger debries out of the filter element. The main objective it to remove the dust and grime without tearing up the polypropelene blanket element. So use a gentle water spray or rinse. If you blast it it be degraded. So it will cost some time and some washing up soap. Note that if you were to fit a new filter your self, the time to remove and replace is the same either way. After washing, shake dry a bit and install. You do not have to get it dry before installing it.
The air filter can be replaced with a K&N 33-2663 cleanable air filter. You can get a cleaning kit to wash it and re oil the element.
Plugs. If the engine starts and runs well with 1 year on the plugs, change them once a year.
If you have any problems with starting or reduced MPG's, consider that the fuel injectors may be fouled up. Try to locate a fuel system cleaner that will clean the injectors and the combustion chambers as well. I find that I need to use this three times per year or about every 8 to 10Kmiles. The gasolines introduced into the US a couple of years ago seems to foul Saab injectors. This if often seen as hard starting with US Saabs in the first cool or cold weather.
Try running slightly higher tyre pressure if you are looking for better highway economy. It its a trade off between that and ride comfort and noise.
