The 2002 9^3 uses drive by wire to control the throttle and the firmware can effectively floor the car depending on how it thinks you want to accelerate.
For the 1998 900 you can make the engine more responsive by:
Modifying the airbox for a larger intake tube and adding a performance air filter. $
Modifing the throttle body transition casting and removing the silencer. $
Insulating the intercooler intake and outlet tubes. $
Adding a free flowing sport exhaust system. $$$
Replacing the stock intercooler with a Viggen intercooler. $$$
Having the Trionic engine management system reprogrammed. $$$$
