Water in hatch after washing car>>>

I had this problem occasionally with my 1996 900S and it appears that I have it again with our "new-to-us" 1999 9-3.
When I wash the car and then lift the hatch to clean around the edge a bunch of water gushes out of both sides near where the struts mount to the hatch. If I lift the hatch slowly and move it up and down I don't hear any water but once the hatch is up past the horizontal position the water runs out.
Does anyone have a similar problem - where is there a plugged drain in the hatch (both little oval holes in the bottom of the hatch are clear). Help!
