Hi I have two problems occuring on my '96 900 2.0 SE Turbo (Sensonic :( ). I say it '96 cause it was registered in October of 1996 but all the manuals have 1997 written on them.
The first problem is one I've had for a few months now. Gear selection is very rough so that when I shift I have to slowly 'persuade' the selector into gear. Sometimes I can't select 1st or reverse until I've revved a little, or choosen 2nd.
It started to happen when I had a syncro replaced under warranty. This was done done by a back street garage as I had no choice. I taken it the Saab garage but all they did was to reallign the linkage and drain the gear box becuase the crappy garage had put some kind of auto fluid in and then filled it to the top(Then rounded the plug off!). Is a linkage upgrade necessary on my car? I hoping that would sort it.
The other problem is a howling noise that only happens when I'm doing over 70 MPH. It doesn't do it on every journey, but when it starts it'll do it until I get home and park up. I'm guessing the parking and the bumpy narrow city roads must knock something back in place. If I happen to hit a bump on the motorway the howl stops for that movement. The noise is definatly speed related rather than engine speed. I've tried to trace the noise but all I can figure out is it from the front of car, but I'm not sure if its in the engine bay or from behind the dash. Its a little hard while I'm driving :) Could this be a wheel bearing on its way out?
Cheers for any ideas, these things are really niggling me :)
Cheers, Al
