Sorry for the duplicate posting - I forgot a subject line (a Monday moment).
Ok, I looked it up.
I use PetroCanada Duron synthetic oil. Not the semi synthetic that you find in the gas bars, but a full synthetic sold for Diesel truck use. The problem is finding it. I found a PetroCanada truck gas bar down at Kipling and North Queen (Toronto) that would order it in for me. It cost me (I think) about $15/4 litre jug. That's $Cdn! Simple enough doing an oil change. When I go to GB Auto for service, it seems to be frequent enough for them to just change the oil (normal intervals) when I'm there.
I can’t find on their info page whether or not it’s PAO based or Castrol spec, but here’s the quote: “DURON SYNTHETIC is a specially designed
combination of unique additives and Petro-Canada’s own synthetic base fluids.
Marketing blurb on Duron: http://www.petro-canada.ca/eng/canada/commercial/lubricants/lub-duron.html
Tech specs at: http://www.petro-canada.ca/eng/techdata/html/IM7944.html There’s a link that opens a pdf with more info.
If you’re concerned about using this in a gasoline engine, here’s the quote from the tech spec base page:
DURON SYNTHETIC may be used in gasoline and automotive natural gas engines where API SJ or an earlier specification is required.
Hey, it's virtually as cheap as a normal litre of oil at Crappy tire and I get an oil that results in almost no wear when tested in a big old truck diesel engine.
and the Saab engine continues to sing a sweet song (not like the aircon or the shifter or the ...).
