The Saab T5 is perhaps the most knock resistant engine system that exists. There are many who have applied the MBC to these engines. WE recommend that intake and exhaust restrictions be reduced to eliminate heat that contributes to knocking potential.
Note that Abbott and other ECU mod's take the pressure much higher than a MBC will go. These mods operate at higher combustion chamber pressures than you will have with a MBC. And they are not knocking and reducing boost. So the basic operation is safe. The concern is what happens when something goes wrong. Well we really have not found that out with the MBC's as things run very well. I have the longest experience with a MBC+T5 here. I can't see any problems. Brad has jacked up the boost on T5's longer than that and he feels that the T5 just will not knock. Perhaps that is an overstatement, but that is a good indicator of his experience with these T5 engine systems.
So your concerns are theoretically justified, but the MBC+T5 seems to be very safe. There is always the caution about boosting an engine that is not mechanically sound.
