On our '96 900S, I think all of the latches are the same, ie they all have a child seat position on them.
Regardless, I would also recommend never installing a car seat in the front. It will always be safer in the back seat. You will be getting a rear-facing seat to use until the child gets up to 20 lbs or so (I can't remember the number). You should use pool "noodles" or towels if you need to to get the car seat base at the right angle, shove the base back into the seat as far as it will go, then put all of your weight on it to compress the seat cushion while pulling the belt tightly. With the belt latch in the "child seat" position, the belt will stay tight afterwards and will not slide back and create slack, which would loosen the seat. The beauty of Saabs is that you can install the seat this way, without the supplemental locking clips that are a pain to use.
Just make sure that when you are done installing it, the car seat can't move more than about an inch or two in any direction. If it is good and tight, it will be safer and you will have installed it correctly. And do stop by a fire station or police station for a check - they will be glad to look at it for you.
PS - You can get a tether strap anchor kit from Saab for free if you call or mail them. You might as well install these now, too. I would get one for all of the rear seating positions so you are covered. It's an easy install, the threaded holes should be there already.
Congratulations!
