Is the NG900 transmission very different from the C900 transmission: Yes. The transmission was completely redesigned. Will Honda MTF work...don't know. I'm personally using Redline in both (91 C900 and 98 NG900). I don't know the lubrication specs on the Honda fluid. If you want to use the Honda fluid, check the specs and see if they meet the Saab requirements. (All lubricants meet certain specs, such as Mercon, Dexron, SAE, GL-4, GL-5, etc.) If not, don't use it; if yes, give it a try.
I've used Redline for about 100,000 miles in my C900 and the transmission is doing well. Honda MTF is reported to lead to smoother shifting, which is a much bigger issue with the C900's. The N900's do not have the same notchy feel to gear changes. I am not familiar with anyone reporting high mileage on the Honda fluid (~100,000 miles of service or more). There were several recent posts of people with 100,000 miles of service with Redline (and no reported transmission problems).
