Ok...I've had this intermittant problem since November. Car is a 1996 900 turbo.
Symptoms:Engine misfires, CEL light comes on, code is misfire.
When:Mostly on highway. When accelerating especially. Doesn't always happen though...usually only happens when car is completely warmed up...ie temp gauge just a little above horizontal. I can back off the accelerator and continue on...but passing and going up hills are near impossible as any boost will cause misfiring to reoccur.
Tried:
1. DI cassette. Same thing happened.
2. Mechanic cleaned BPV. Same thing.
3. Air filter and spark plugs...same thing.
My mechanic hasn't been lucky enough to have it happen to him when he's had the car yet though. He even took it for a weekend once. So that hasn't helped the issue get resolved any quicker.
And Tuesday and today...I drove from work...to my mechanics during lunch...hoping that the 30 minutes of highway driving I have to do to get there...the problem would begin happening and I could get him into the car quickly and see it firsthand. Of COURSE now it won't do it for me when I TRY. Even though both Tuesday night and Wednesday night it did it to me on a short 15 minute highway drive.
So...since it only seems to happen to me...what can I do myself to diagnose this little issue? Anyone have any ideas? Recommendations?
