Long explanation here, but please check the reply I made to Dean further down. The measurements you have made seem to prove my point. And no the ECU does not compute, but just takes the difference between black and grey wire in differential mode op-amp connection. This difference as you said generates a signal between 0.1-0.8V which is exactly what a O2 sensor generates. I am almost convinced that the ground connection on a 4 wire O2 sensor does not affect O2 reading at all.
