The magplug has a full thread form and I know what you are talking about. I have not had any trouble threading mine in on three vehicles, but I know that it is tight. The threads in the oil pan might also be distorted a bit too. If you can get it going it might find its way. Otherwise if it does not feel right, you have too choices. You can run a tap through the oil pan, try running a die over the magplug. If you tap the pan, then only cut a small ways then back the tap out to clear the cuttings. If you load the tap with a thick grease, that will also capture the cuttings so that you know where they are going. Don't tap all the way through, try it part way then try the magplug.
If its amy comfort, if the threads are distorted, the threads in the pan will match those of the plug. Then a new basic plug will also have some problems fitting the threads in the pan.
One trick with messed up threads in a spark plug hole in aluminum heads is to take a plug and file a knotch onto the end of the threads, so that there is a rigth angle at the threads to act as a thread chaser or cutter. This will clear threads and only remove metal neccessary to accept the plug.
