No A/C - Thermostatic Switch

Hi,
A couple of days ago I noticed that when I stopped at the lights the engine would idle around 2000rpm and very slowly drop to the normal 1000rpm. I had the A/C on so I switched it off and then at subsequent lights the idle rpm settled directly to 1000rpm. Tonight I checked fuses and power and all seemed OK. I then searched posting here and think my next step is to check the electro-mechanical clutch on the compressor. What I would like to know if anyone knows what the normal resistance range for the clutch winding? This would enable me to measure the resistance at the single wire connection point to the compressor. This would check the thermostatic switch along with the clutch winding so as to not take off the lower radiator hose unless it really necessary.
Thanks - Martin (New Zealand)
