Gentlemen.
I have a 1996 900s NON TURBO, Automatic with 145,000 miles on it.
The car starts if I don't press the gas at all. Every time. No flooding or stuttering, just normal. Then if I press the gas lightly (still in Park) it dies.
However it starts right back up again and will run infinitely at idle with no foot on the gas (1000 rpm solid). This indicates that the fuel is pumping.
If I then slowly but steadily increase the rpm (pressing the gas continuously, not just a little or stoping, but increasing) all the way up to say, 4,000. I can keep it there no problem still in Park. I can ease it down to 3,000 or 2000 rpm too, no problem. I can even ease it back down to idle, though I have to be careful not to 'loose it' at around 1000 then I can take my foot off the gas and it keeps running. But if I just "drop" it from 3000 to idle (foot off all of a sudden), it will die.
Same with if you put it in Drive and press the gas a little (as is normal) it will die. So it's in front of my house and I'm wondering what to check? What could this be? The pump is pumping. Is it an air mixture? Was there a clog in my intake? I unhooked my air intake from the filter box. Same thing. I unhooked the O2 sensor on that air intake. Same thing. I put it all back together (looked clean in there by the way). Same thing.
I suspect clogging as opposed to something totally computer related for the reason that I can keep it running if I try, wheras often computer failures just shut the sucker down.
PS. 3/4 tank of premium gas. Yes they changed to the winter mixture already, but this happened ALL OF A SUDDEN starting this morning. Car was fine last night.
HELP!!!
Thank you.
Brian.
