Well good folks, I finally got one of my dream cars: a 1992 Saab 900S Convertible. She's blue on grey with a blue top and by all appearances is in great shape. She's got 169.5k with a new transmission (auto) about 20k ago, new shocks, breaks, tires, and lots of other goodies. The previous owner even had every single record dating back to new -- including regular oil changes! The interior leather is darn near perfect (still smooth and unfaded) and the carpet looks pretty good, too. Now, here's the thing.
I have never purchased a used car before let alone one that, given another make, would be in its death throws or already junked. Of known problems (and there are only a few) I need a new top (outer skin only), a new turn signal switch (works but you have to hold it) and installation of a passenger, front seatbelt latch (the piece that attaches to the floor) which the previous owner already purchased and passed on to me. There are a few other minor things but these are the things I'd like to address right away. Later I'd like to consider repainting but I can hold off till Spring.
I've read quite a bit about Viking and if there's nothing you can recommend closer to me (in Hyattsville, MD) I'll no doubt head there, but, does any one know anything about Rossi's Automotive in Silver Spring? I read one good post at Saabnet but before I call...
I'd really like to bring this car back to as close to new as I can and drive it regularly so I'd like to start a relationship with a service center near my home. The previous owner used Specialty Service in Alexandria but that trip across the river on 395 can be murder in the morning or late in the day.
Thanks in advance. By the way. I paid only $1500.00. I think I did OK even with a need for new canvas.
