Hi Stephen...
I have BBS and Borbet wheels on my 2002 Aero and have had them on Audi's, BMW's, Nissan Z's and Honda Preludes. Both are high quality (TUV rated) brands with great clear coats. I put a little wax on the outer edges maybe twice a year and they continue to look great for years (including New England winters). In my opinion, the critical thing to avoid is the nasty wheels cleaners that will degrade the clear coat. Accept on my SUV - I have NEVER used a foaming wheel cleaner. With a little patience, just the usual car soap (I use Meguires) and a soft brush removes all brake dust etc. I rotate every 5k miles and wash the entire wheel when ever they are off the car.
I know there are many other strategies and I repect them all... but I am finnicky about my cars and this has worked for me.
Cheers,
eric
