Here are my thoughts.
Window Cleaner:
It is hard to remove that stubborn film from the inside of the windshield. I use Griot’s Garage ‘Window Cleaner’. You can also make your own window cleaner by just mixing a solution of 10 percent isopropyl alcohol with distilled water. The isopropyl alcohol can be found in the pharmacy or drug section of the supermarket. Try to find the purest isopropyl alcohol you can, usually ‘99% pure’ can be found in many pharmacies. For lint free results, use the glass cleaner with a quality micro fiber towel. My favorite is Griot’s Garage ‘Lint Free Towels’, made of polypropylene instead of paper; they leave behind NO LINT and are disposable.
Cleaning Road Grime from the Windshield:
Buy Bon Ami Brand Cleaning Powder, the "Hasn't Scratched Yet!" baby chick trademark dry powder cleanser, made by the Faultless Starch/Bon Ami Company. Use a garden hose to wet the windshield then apply a small amount of Bon Ami to a wet sponge or soft cloth and clean the windshield. Let the Bon Ami do the work. Do not apply much pressure to the sponge or cloth. Just gently scrub the entire windshield. Thoroughly rinse the windshield and surrounding paint and dry the windshield with a soft cloth. DO NOT USE Comet or Ajax as they WILL scratch the glass.
An alternative to Bon Ami is Griot’s Garage Glass Polish or Fine Glass Polish.
