SOunds like sensible advice from the right people, the folks who painted it. I'd follow it.
Use a 100% cotton chenille mitt or a pure lambswool one to wash the car. Many of the car wash shampoos avail at auto parts stores are fine (Meguiars, Mothers, Eagle One, 3M, etc).
Washing the car frequently with a mild soap and a clean, like new mitt will go a very long way to maintaining the new paint job. Commit to this and use a quality car wax with mild cleaners if any (not NuFinish or any of that cheap junk) and your paint will look like new for many many years.
You have the best possible scenario to start off with, a new paint job. Do the right thing and you'll always be happy with the appearance of the car.
