I can't answer your question intelligently because I am not familiar with Saab's paint processes in the early 1990's. But I can venture an educated guess as to why your paint still looks good.
The primary reason paint is glossy is because there are plasticizers in it that are fresh and flexible. The paint is soft enough to be flexible yet hard enough to withstand erosion and abuse from UV rays and all sorts of environmental attacks. As cars are exposed to the elements these plasticizers dry out, the result being oxidation. Pollution has a very detremental affect on auto paint as well, literally eating it away.
A car that's been garaged and waxed its whole life will maintain its factory fresh paint appearance much better than a car that's been outdoors 24/7. Cars that live in areas of bad weather, coastal areas, and urban areas will all suffer quicker paint degradation than cars that don't.
I think the reason your car looks so good after all these years is that its been babied for most of its life. Plus I'm sure the factory Saab paint job was pretty good. In time ozone, UV, and airborne pollutants will take their toll on the paint but with proper care and some TLC, that day should be far off.
