I just kept spraying until the wheels were thoroughly soaked. Left for 2 hours (as per instructions) & commenced rinsing & scrubbing. most of the caked-on stuff came off with the scrubbing & rinsing.
I didn't (and won't) use Simple Green. Nothing against SG, but I figure I'm better off with a formula made for wheels and brake dust, and approved by most, if not all German car makers.
I tried the Griot's wheel cleaner, but that didn't budge any of the crud.
If your wheels are really nasty, you've got to use the P21S gel formula so it sticks better and can act on the crud. And, you've got to use a scrubber that won't scratch the paint or other finish. The Griot's wheel scrubbers work great.
