An ad has to be really great or really bad to be effective. If Saab wants to sell more cars, then they should look back to what they were doing in the late 80's when they sold more than they knew how to sell. I remember driving by the HQ in Connecticut and seeing the platform set up to be seen from the highway of the Scania bus and truck, 3 cars, and a jet. Now that was an ad!
This reminds me though of my favorite Saab ad ever. It was a '91 9000 CDE. All the viewer can see is a silhouette of the car created by the the sunset and the severe front end damage that this car sustained. As the camera zooms in slowly, a voice says, "Crumple zones activated, the drivers side airbag deployed (it was '91 remember--no pass. bag yet), and the passenger safety cage in tact. This car sacrificed itself to save the life it's driver. The insurance company called this car a total loss. The driver, totally disagrees." To me that was a great ad. You know, they go and build a car with the lowest fatality rate on the road, you think they would mention that occasionally! I actually called and complained about the Find Your Own Road junk and the presdient called me back to find out what wasnt working for me! That was interesting! Oh well...my vote for the best car ad: Volvo, almost all are perfect! Maybe one day, GM will take a lesson from them.
