I am now close to two weeks into first-time Saab ownership -- 2000 9-3 5dr 5sp. Loving it. Aside from getting used to all the gadgetry (never owned this fancy a car), I'm feeling pretty in synch with everything but the shifter, though realizing I have to give it some gas before letting out in first has helped.

Anyhow, this was a program car, now has about 11 mos left on warranty and is coming up to 30K maintenance. Should I have a dealer do it? Would mean about an hour's drive for me, and so a logistical hassle. There is a local private Saab mechanic of good reputation.

Are there warranty issues here?

Am I not likely to get pretty heavily socked by a dealer? I've read tales of $600-$1000.

The only flaws I've noted so far are lack of badging on the hatch and the rear seat doesn't seem to split. So I don't feel much call to exercise warranty at this point.
