i assume your daughter is going to USD. I am a PhD student at UCSD so I am kind of familar with this stuff.
i would try to get a TA position on campus first. they do not pay well, but it would be on campus and the hours would be somewhat flexible. I am not sure that law student get preference for TAs, but if no one within the department takes the job, it's hers.
I have a friend in the law program at USD and he is working full-time and going to school part time at night. Seems like it is a pretty rigorous program (hey the new GM of the Red Sox's graduated from there!). I think she can borrow up top 8k a year for living expenses (at 2% interest or something like that), but the financial aid office would know the limits better
As far as outside expenses, San Diego is pretty expensive to live in. She should plan on 500-600 a month outside of her rent to live on.
