I own a 2000 LS2, and had an ION 2 loaner for 6 weeks while the extended warranty co. was sourcing out a used replacement trans.
The car was quick. Low revs and quiet at highway speeds. (Not a bad cruiser.) The ride was smooth and compliant, but too much braking nose dive and cornering lean, and just generally a little too bouncy. (I prefer firmer suspension settings.)
I hated the interior materials, but it was roomy. I actually liked the instrument center pod. It was easy to adjust to. I like the smaller dia steering wheel, (althought the design was too plain,) but the steering itself was too darty and abrupt, with no feel. It could be a real handful in crosswinds at highway speeds.
The seats were my biggest complaint. Very tall, short, narrow, with no side support on either the seat base or back. You felt like you were sitting on a Toadstool, and could fall off when cornering. It also suffered from dash reflection on the windshield. Sometimes, it got quite annoying.
I am not sure if I would ever buy one.
I bought the LS2 because I couldn't quite swing purchasing a new 93. It is not a bad car. It is very quick, and I like ti tight handling. It just got hammered by bad press. Unfortunately, I have been caught in the low trade in value problem, and will probably keep the Saturn for another year before I dump it. Then it will be a new 93SS.
